FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.
Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
    		• Weakness. Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Headache. Dizziness. Nausea. Confusion. Convulsions. Unconsciousness. Disturbed vision. Yellow discoloration of conjunctiva.
    		Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• MAY BE ABSORBED! (See Inhalation).
    		Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    		First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Loss of vision.
    		Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• Diarrhoea. Vomiting. (Further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Consult an expert! Ventilation. Sweep spilled substance into containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Separated from strong oxidants, strong bases, food and feedstuffs, metals such as tin and zinc, nitric acid, reducing agents.
    		Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     WHITE TO YELLOW CRYSTALS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     May explode on heating even in absence of air. On combustion, forms toxic gases and fumes including nitrogen oxides. Reacts violently with strong oxidants, strong bases, and reducing metals, e.g, zinc and tin causing fire and explosion hazard. Mixtures with nitric acid are highly explosive!

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV: 0.15 ppm; 1.0 mg/m3 (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1996).


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin, and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin. Exposure far above OEL may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     The substance may have effects on the respiratory tract formation of methaemoglobin. Prolonged exposure may lead to liver damage. Chronic exposure may result in anemia.
